Annual Reviews

Each year we now produce an 'Annual Review' for Friends and Members, which incorporates a summary of our formal Year-end Report, plus what we hope are some interesting highlights of the year in question.

The previous few Annual Reviews can be downloaded here:

UPDATED Announcement re coronavirus (COVID-19)

The car park to Magog Down is now closed, with effect from Tuesday 24th March 2020. The site remains open for access by foot or bicycle (please park your bicycle sensibly and then walk around the site).

Police guidance is clear that people should not be travelling by car to take their exercise away from home during these unprecedented times. This is supported by the Kennel Club. We recommend that our many hundreds of regular visitors take this opportunity while the streets are so quiet to enjoy exploring your local area: greet your neighbours (at a safe distance!), look around you and admire the architecture, and observe what flora and fauna is emerging in your street.

Essential maintenance work at Magog Down continues, so the entrance must be left clear at all times. Thank you.

Ticket machine theft

Our car park ticket machine was vandalised overnight on 2nd December: sawn at the base and removed!

The introduction of car parking charge in January 2019 has brought about a huge increase in the number of Friends of Magog Down and also ensures that everyone visiting Magog Down contributes to its upkeep.

The loss of the machine results in a temporary loss in income to the Trust, until it is reinstated, at considerable cost. This means that we have less money to support planned projects on the Down.

In the temporary absence of the machine, we have introduced a mechanism for visitors to donate the amount of the parking charge by text message. To donate £3, text MAGOG to 70331

The machine will be replaced as soon as possible. In the meantime we thank all our Friends and Members for their ongoing subscriptions which continue to be a very important source of income.

Old Newsletters

Up until 2011 we produced a twice-yearly Newsletter, and you can still download copies of some of these here:

Spring 2010

Autumn/Winter 2009

Spring 2009

In 2011 the re-designed website was launched, and so the decision was taken to stop producing these Newsletters, and instead to use this website as the main means of communication for news and articles of interest.

This move away from a regular Newsletter meant that more of the Members' and Friends' subscriptions could be spent directly on the costs of upkeep and husbandry on the Down.

We would love every regular visitor to Magog Down to help support its upkeep by becoming a Friend. Read more on our Join Us page, and then complete the application form.
